We're excited to announce a historic milestone for Independence School District: students have been awarded a staggering $2,099,536,040 in scholarship offers through merit-based opportunities on the VU Scholarships platform.
This extraordinary achievement represents 47,109 individual scholarship offers across the district, creating a wealth of college opportunities for students at all three Independence high schools. The sheer scale of these numbers demonstrates the transformative impact that can occur when an entire school district commits to connecting students with scholarship opportunities based on their academic achievements.

Each Independence high school contributed significantly to this remarkable district-wide achievement:
Truman High School led the way with $844,057,216 in total scholarship offers across 19,058 opportunities. Truman seniors received $484,363,900 through 10,993 scholarship offers, while juniors secured $359,693,316 through 8,065 offers—giving next year's graduating class a strong head start on their college planning.
William Chrisman High School students earned $757,594,908 through 16,823 scholarship opportunities. The school's seniors received $402,085,568 across 9,005 offers, and juniors added $355,509,340 through 7,818 offers, positioning them well for their senior year.
Van Horn High School students secured $497,883,916 in scholarship offers through 11,228 opportunities. Van Horn seniors received $253,791,664 across 5,775 offers, while juniors earned $244,092,252 through 5,453 offers.

Through VU Scholarships' merit-based system, Independence School District students gained access to numerous college partners who evaluated them based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores. The result? Tens of thousands of scholarship opportunities that translate into real pathways to higher education for students at every school in the district.
What's particularly exciting is seeing both seniors and juniors benefit from this program. While seniors can immediately act on their scholarship offers for the upcoming academic year, juniors are already building their college portfolios—giving them time to explore options and make informed decisions about their futures.
This isn't just about impressive numbers—it's about opening doors for every student in Independence School District. These scholarship offers mean that more students can pursue college degrees, explore career possibilities, and achieve their educational goals without being held back by financial barriers.
The $2+ billion in scholarship offers represents a collective investment in the future of Independence students and their community. Each scholarship offer is an opportunity for a student to write their next chapter, and together, these 47,109 opportunities are reshaping what's possible for an entire generation of learners.
Congratulations to the students, families, educators, and administrators at Truman High School, William Chrisman High School, Van Horn High School, and throughout Independence School District who have worked together to make this remarkable achievement possible. This is what happens when a community invests in its students' futures.
